About City
Amsterdam is the capital city of the Netherlands and located in the province of North Holland. Amsterdam is the commercial and cultural capital of the Netherlands and among one of the top financial centres of the European region. Amsterdam is listed under the world alpha city declared by the GaWC group. Amsterdam is the headquarter for many large Dutch institutions with base to seven out of World/’s 500 largest companies such as Philips, ING, AkzoNobel, TomTom, Uber, Netflix and Tesla. Amsterdam also has bagged 12th position globally in terms of quality living environment & infrastructure declared by Mercer. The port of Amsterdam is the second largest in the country and fifth in the Europe contributing a major role to the overall growth of the country. Its Stock Exchange is the oldest stock exchange in the world. The city of Amsterdam is very famous for the nightlife and festivals with some of the night clubs are listed among most famous clubs of the world. It is also among world’s most multinational cities representing about 177 nationalities.
Geographically, there are more than 60 miles of canals in the city with boating navigation facilities. Most famous canals are: Herengracht, Prinsengracht, & Keizersgracht. Amsterdam having an oceanic climate. Both summer and winter seasons are mild and occasionally it become too cold and warm.
Amsterdam is well connected with Metro services, tram, train, bus and Airport with other cities of Europe as well as major cities of the world. Amsterdam Airport Schiphol is the main International Airport and is less than 20 minutes far from the city central station. There are sixteen tram and four metro routes across the city of Amsterdam. There is also availability of private water taxies, water bus, sharing boats, electric boats, canal cruises for waterways transportation across the cities. It is also served with ten railway stations of Dutch railways. There are both local trains and international trains connecting almost all major cities of Europe. Amsterdam is listed under most bicycle friendly cities in the World. There are good bicycle facilities across the city of Amsterdam with many guarded bike storage garages.
Amsterdam is very rich in its arts and culture and among the best tourist destinations in the world. The city is very rich with its architectural marvels. The oldest and building in It is the Oude Kerk. Other famous buildings are: Het Houten Huys, Royal Palace, Oud-Zuid, and Amsterdamse School etc. Amsterdam has several parks, open spaces and squares for the recreational activities. Vondelpark is the biggest park in Amsterdam and Dam Square is the most famous open square. There are also various museums at Amsterdam. The most famous museums are: Stedelijk Museum, Rijksmuseum, Van Gogh Museum, and Rembrandt House Museum etc.
